Yesterday, I was watching a Television show where they were talking with some of the people involved in polygamy.  Experts say that there are anywhere from 30,000 to 50,000 people living in some type of plural marriage family. Oprah did an interview with one of the families.  She was talking to each of the 3 wives, and none of them acted like it was any kind of big deal.  Between the 3 of them there are 23 people in the house, including the 3 wives, the 1 husband, and all the children.  I know at one time, that this was something the we believed in, only because it was a commandment given to the brethren at that time.

But the things they were being said on the Oprah Winfrey Show, frustrated me so bad, that I had to blog about it and get some frustrations out.

I do have another point.  “We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law” (Article of Faith 12). The fact that these individuals are still practicing plural marriage, is open rebellion.  Some of these ladies that Oprah interviewed, said that they wished for it to be decriminalized.  I don’t agree with them. I think that polygamy should still be outlawed.  Marriage is meant for a man and a woman to unite as one.

This leads me to the next part of my post, and that is gays of homosexuals.  God created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.  I don’t hate homosexuals, I just disapprove of their lifestyle. And please, do not think that I am a homophobic person.  I think that people are able to live whatever lifestyle they want to live.  However, I think that legalizing same-sex marriage, is a load of crap. Recently, California legalized same-sex marriage, so now we will have all the gays going off to California to get married.  But as far as I understand, the other states do not recognize those marriages as legal.

The Federal Defense of Marriage Act says that states do not have to recognize marriages performed in other states that violate their state laws. However I think is that is ever challenged properly, it will be over turned in being a violation of Article 4, Section 1 of the US Constitution, which reads: “Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State. And the Congress may by general Laws prescribe the Manner in which such Acts, Records and Proceedings shall be proved, and the Effect thereof.”

The Family: A Proclaimation to the World

People argue that homosexuals should be entitled to the same rights as heterosexuals. I don’t want to trample on anyone’s rights. However, marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God. My issue is not gay people. It’s that marriage is a sacred union. I believe that legalizing same-sex marriage would violate that sacredness.
In regards to Mike’s comment above: States that don’t recognize same sex marriage are already recognizing same-sex divorces. By doing so, they validate the marriage in their state.
As far as polygamy goes: My beef is with people who think the reason we had polygamy was for a guy to get his “needs” fulfilled. This was not an arrangement for men to get their jollies. I just wish more people, including those within the Church, need to look at the actual history of why polygamy was instituted in the Church and why it was abolished. All I ask is that people become informed before they open their mouths.
