There is one thing in the workplace that I really have a problem with, and that is favoritism. Seeing workplace favoritism is one of the most demotivating things that I deal with on a daily basis.

In the workplace, it can refer to when someone – or perhaps a group of people – appear to be treated better than others and not necessarily for reasons related to superior work performance.

Favoritism in the workplace might result in this person being promoted faster than others unfairly, being paid more to do the same job as others, being given more leeway to come and go during the day as they please, that sort of thing. This is very evident in my profession.  I work in a call center, and we are given a “bank” of sick time.  Once that is used up, then any future sick time is without pay and you are supposed to make up that time during the work week.  There are so many people that get away with using excess sick time, just because they know the right people.  They are allowed to take the time off, and not have to make up the time.

This same employee that uses excessive amounts of sick time, comes in to work late almost every day.  Usually it is not just 5 minutes late, she tends to be closer to 10 or 15 minutes late.  However, one of my friends got fired from this same job, because he was late one or two times.  If you know the right people, then this is very easy to get away with these kind of things.
